BUILDING BASICS

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Have you recently added a new dog into your family and you want to start off on the right paw, or do you have a dog that needs a refresher on everyday commands? Our six week Building Basics class is structured to provide owners of dogs five months and older with a great opportunity to strengthen the relationship they have with their dog through fundamental behaviors like sit, down, place and come and learning how to incorporate them into real life scenarios. The main goal is to be able to have your dog reliably and consistently executing these commands in low levels of distractions. We will also discuss various aspects of impulse control as well as the concept of loose leash walking. Dogs who graduate from this class will be able to move on to our Sharpening Skills Class (Level 2). ​
SCHEDULE
  • Class 1: Monday, September 25th at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 2: Monday, October 2nd at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 3: Monday, October 9th at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 4: Monday, October 16th at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 5: Monday, October 23rd at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 6: Monday, October 30th at 6:45 P.M.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Class is for ages 6 months and older
  • All dogs must provide documentation showing proof of up-to-date Rabies and Bordetella prior to the start of the first session.
  • ​Payment is due in full before the start of the first session. No refunds.
  • Dogs must be non-reactive to other people or dogs on leash. No excessive barking, lunging, growling, snapping or other aggressive behavior. 
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
  • There are no make-up sessions unless the class was cancelled by the trainer for inclement weather or a scheduling issue. You will be able to jump into the same session being held during a different class at a later date.
  • All classes are held outside with access to an outdoor overhang when necessary so please dress accordingly.

SHARPENING SKILLS

CLASS DESCRIPTION
In Sharpening Skills, graduates of our Pup-Start or Building Basics group classes will be able to refine their newly learned behaviors by focusing on the 3 D's of dog training: duration, distance and distraction. You will learn how to navigate through your dog making mistakes and how to incorporate your training sessions into more real world scenarios. There will also be a strong emphasis on responding to visual and verbal commands from a distance and how to behave more appropriately in public. Dogs who graduate from this class will have the opportunity to test for their Canine Good Citizen Title (please inquire separately for scheduling/pricing).
SCHEDULE
  • Class 1: Wednesday, September 27th at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 2: Wednesday, October 4th at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 3: Wednesday, October 11th at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 4: Wednesday, October 18th at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 5: Wednesday, October 25th at 6:45 P.M.
  • Class 6: Wednesday, November 1st at 6:45 P.M.

  • Class is for any age as long as they have successfully graduated from our Pup-Start or Building Basics group classes
  • All dogs must provide documentation showing proof of up-to-date Rabies and Bordetella prior to the start of the first session.

IMPULSE CONTROL

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Does your dog have trouble focusing on you out in public, especially in the presence of other people or other dogs? Do they struggle with managing their enthusiasm and ignore all your attempt to establish boundaries around food, toys and other distracting stimuli? Throughout this class, you will learn different ways to engage your dog in a way that brings the focus back to you, set necessary boundaries and limitations as well as beginning to behave more appropriately in public. Please keep in mind that these exercises and behaviors will need to be practiced on a routine basis and in many different scenarios and locations over a great length of time in order to see significant improvement on a daily basis. This class is meant to give you a strong launching point to achieve success down the road.

LEASH PULLERS ANONYMOUS

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Does your dog get easily distracted while out in the real world? Are you fed up with your dog pulling you around on walks? Then let's get started on making your outings more enjoyable again! Leash Pullers Anonymous is a five week class (first week is owners only, no dogs) designed to set the foundation for more engagement out on walks, stop pulling on leash and learning how to interact appropriately in public. Graduates will be eligible to enroll in the second part of this class called Around the Town Canine at a later date and focus on bringing all of these skills to different locations in surrounding areas. Please be advised that Leash Pullers Anonymous is not for dogs that are leash reactive to other humans or dogs. READY, SET, RECALL!

CLASS DESCRIPTION
How often do you call your dog back just for the cue to fall on deaf ears? Building a reliable recall is one of the most difficult behaviors to achieve with any dog, and owners often struggle with where to start. This four week class series is specifically designed to build more engagement between you and your dog, teach the proper introductory steps to secure a more reliable recall command and begin to learn this crucial skill at a distance. Please keep in mind that all dogs will either be on a short or long leash (when applicable) during this class. Any team looking to head into an off-leash lifestyle should email Kelsey directly at [email protected] , but this class is a great head start to achieving off-leash freedom down the road.
