Why does my dog need the Bordetella vaccine?
The Bordetella vaccine reduces the severity of symptoms caused by the diseases of the Kennel Cough Complex. Much like a human Flu Shot, it does not guarantee your dog will not get Kennel Cough. It is to be given to dogs who are at high risk, ie. kenneling, grooming, dog show, or hospitalization. The vaccine may cause transient coughing and/or sneezing. Please plan accordingly so your pet is best protected during his/her stay. The Bordetella vaccine needs approximately 3 days to 1 week to take full effect after it is administered. We require an annual vaccination.
The Bordetella vaccine is required for boarding and daycare. The only exception is with a VET'S EXEMPTION.
